Regional Seminar: Moral Bedrocks

John Adams famously noted that our Constitution was created for a moral and religious people—going so far as to say that it was “wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Like his contemporaries, he understood that a free and prosperous society depends on upholding enduring Western cultural principles and traditional values, rooted in individual liberty, the importance of family, civic responsibility, and social cohesion. Today, much of American society is questioning the historic presuppositions that led to classically liberal freedom and representative government. The fact that the sacred and the secular can thrive together in the United States is not a departure from Judeo-Christian morality—it’s a feature of that theological and philosophical inheritance. But the more we embrace moral relativism—or radical leftwing ideology—the more we weaken the very foundations of our social fabric. This program will feature speakers who can articulate our history as a moral and religious people, trace how American society has strayed, and define a vision for returning to a culture where moral truths sustain freedom, strengthen families and communities, and foster a flourishing society.
